MEDDLESOME BREWING COMPANY
Branding Project
This is a brand re-design for Meddlesome Brewery.
In the past few years, craft breweries have been trending, With over 5,000 independent breweries popping up in the U.S. as of March 2017. I saw a need in Meddlesome for a cleaner, simpler logo, and eye-catching labels so that they can rise above the noise of all these breweries popping up, and grow and distribute their product.
My final design package achieved this, with a simple wordmark that can be removed from the icon and applied to any of their merchandise for a strong visual identity.
The icon is of a hop, a basic ingredient in most beer and it is surrounded by a simple gear. The gear reflects Meddlesome’s interior. They have gears, pipes, and other industrial elements throughout their taproom. Overall, giving it a “steampunk” feel. I wanted to emphasize that in their logo as they had done previously -- but do it in a simpler way. Meddlesome has a great brand vision, but their identity was not communicating that vision.
Here is my solution. . .
The Meddlesome logo was created with the colors blending together to be a visual representation of a "buzzed" feeling. The gears coincide with the aesthetic of the interior location.
I wanted to have a special focus on sustainability with this project. I did research on cans vs. bottles, and looked in to the practices of beer making. This led me to create an infographic on how the beer is made and what practices are put in to place to reduce waste and encourage sustainability.
Meddlesome encourages their customers to drink beer on tap, and fill up reusable growlers. In the event that they would want to expand, I found that cans would be the most sustainable option for distribution.
Cans are easy to recycle, lightweight for distribution, and opaque so the sun doesn’t get to the beer as easily as it would in glass bottles, allowing the beer to have a longer shelf life.
201 Poplar is the location of the Jail and Courthouse in Memphis. I wanted to convey a danger aspect in this can design.
This beer is a winter seasonal.
